Senior Executive Roles may be filled by employers internally or through an Executive’s own contacts, but in the open market they are predominantly handled by Executive Recruitment Consultants, otherwise known as Headhunters, if the package is in excess of £150k pa.
For salaries below £100k pa vacancies are filled by Search & Selection Consultancies, where advertising the assignment is the norm. A search of the candidate data base held by the consultancy is often part of the initial process and it is therefore worthwhile registering with recruitment consultancies up to this salary level.
Headhunters are assignment driven and will never advertise their assignments, so for a senior executive to send a CV without invitation is of little value. It is rare for a Headhunter to interview a candidate without a role or prospective assignment and it is impossible for a candidate to have detailed knowledge of all the relevant Headhunters and their vacancies.
