Executive Recruitment Consultants, Headhunters
There are three types of Executive Recruitment Consultancy, namely Executive Search Consultancies or Headhunters, Contingency Consultancies and Search & Selection Consultancies.
The industry is hugely fragmented, ranging from one-person operations to large global organisations, some are international and many indigenous. Each consultant within a Consultancy tends to have a particular specialism.
Executive Search, otherwise known as Headhunting, is assignment driven. It is conducted by searching the market for top executives to fill roles that are never advertised. The minimum salary is typically £100k plus bonuses and other incentives.
Contingency Executive Recruitment is the opposite approach, where a top executive is proposed to an organisation by a pro-active Consultant who knows both the employer and the candidate, but where there is no specific brief. Once again there is no advertising for candidates.
Search & Selection, operates at the lower end of the Executive Recruitment market and typically applies to vacancies with salaries between £65k and £100k. It combines research with advertising the assignment, which is often compulsory when filling a role in the Public Sector.
